Who We Are

The Transverse Myelitis Center at Johns Hopkins is the only clinical and research center of its kind in the world. We focus on all aspects of the disease – from a team oriented approach for diagnosis to providing expert care and progressive treatment for those already living with TM. We continue to strive to gain an even deeper understanding of the natural course of the disease and the impact it has on a patient’s ability to perform certain functions.

Our team believes that without effective collaborations, one cannot reach truth. We partner with physicians throughout the institution, including psychiatry, urology, rheumatology, physical and occupational therapy, neuroradiology and physical medicine and rehabilitation. Through this collaboration, we are able to truly maximize recovery and function.

The Transverse Myelitis Center is also uniquely committed to linking those who need treatment with those who provide it. Our ultimate pursuit is a cure for transverse myelitis. As one of our physicians, Doug Kerr, says, “we won’t stop until we restore function to people who are paralyzed.”
