Neuro-AIDS Pilot Grant Announcement, 2009
The Johns Hopkins University NIMH Center for Novel Therapeutics of
HIV- associated Cognitive Disorders, located in the Department of Neurology, has announced the upcoming 2009 Developmental Pilot Grant Awards for innovative Neuro-AIDS projects. The grant awards are particularly designed to stimulate new projects and encourage new investigators to generate data that would be used for future grant applications.
Faculty members of any rank are encouraged
to apply, and collaborations with other academic institutions or
international sites are allowable. The Center will award 2 to 4 pilot
grants of $25,000 to $45,000 in direct costs for a one year period.
Letters of Intent, a required first part of a two stage process are
due by
October 10 , 2008.

Translational Research in NeuroAIDS and Mental Health (#ME:200.701)
August 26- December 16, 2008
This course is sponsored by an NIMH R25 grant which will provide tuition to qualified candidates. It provides training using a weekly online seminar format combined with a weekly journal club via state of the art videoconferencing amongst participating universities. The 12-week didactic portion of the course will cover topics such as Epidemiology, Clinical Features, and Treatment of HAND; Research Methods; Statistics; Cultural Competence; Neuropsychological Testing; Pathology; Surrogate and Host Genetic Markers; Imaging Techniques; Animal Models for HIV-Dementia and Drug Abuse; Viral Genetics, and Reservoirs; Pathophysiology of Neurodegeneration; Drug Development; and Ethics in NeuroAIDS Research in Minority Populations. Select participants will have the opportunity to develop and apply for a laboratory based project for up to three months under mentorship at Johns Hopkins University. The project should help generate preliminary data for a grant application focused on NeuroAIDS.
