2008 National Ataxia Foundation
Chesapeake Chapter Picnic
Changing Our World, One Step at a Time
Saturday, September 20, 2008
Cerebellar ataxia is characterized by incoordination of gait, speech, and/or eye-movements and may result from a variety of causes, including genetic disease, toxic/metabolic/infectious agents, stroke, tumors, and unidentified factors. Although cerebellar ataxia has a significant impact on the lives of patients and their families, treatment options are limited.
We are kicking Ataxia Awareness Week off with an event on Saturday September 20th, when the Chesapeake Chapter of the National Ataxia Foundation will hold its fall picnic-meeting. This year the JHU Ataxia Center and the CC-NAF are partnering with a number of Johns Hopkins University student groups including Nu Rho Psi and the student chapter of the Ataxia Ambassadors. The picnic will be held on the grounds of the Homewood Campus of the Johns Hopkins University in the
Glass Pavilion at Levering Hall. The event will be from 11am-3pm. There will be a mini expo of equipment and strategies to cope with ataxia, ataxia awareness games, informational exhibits regarding research opportunities, food, family friendly activities and chances to win free t-shirts and other prizes!
There will be opportunities to meet and speak with members of the ataxia community, including patients and their families, clinicians and researchers.
Admission is free, but you are welcome to bring a dish to pass.
